THE
CORRELATION OF MUSLIM DOCTRINE & LATTER-DAY SAINT DOCTRINE
By Amos R. Jackson
List Price: $19.95 REVIEW I never knew that the Muslims had a story about Ishmael and Abraham that is almost identical to the story about Isaac and Abraham, where Abraham is commanded to offer his son as a sacrifice. A reader. Table of Contents Excerpt Review An essential Muslim resource book for Mormons.
Selecting gospel topics, the author quotes comparative passages from The Old
Testament, The New Testament, The Book of Mormon, and the Qur'n (Koran). After
hosting a foreign exchange Muslim student in the 1960s and being very impressed
with the young man's spirituality, the LDS author began a several decade study
of the Muslim religion. In 1985, to gain more understanding of the Muslims, Amos
Jackson attended the Middle East Studies at the University of Utah. In 1989 he
visited Indonesia and met with many renowned Muslim scholars.

Historically, Muslims have respected the "People of the Book," and they have, generally, lived amicably with both Jews and Christians. This position is clearly mandated in the revealed word of the Qur'n. By contrast, Christians have historically looked upon the Muslims with bitter acrimony. Unfortunately, the memories of the crusades have continued to permeate the deep-seated inner feelings of both sides-even to this day. A careful analysis of today's religious world reveals that Muslims can accept the divine origin of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but the dominant Christian faiths regard the Muslims as infidels who must be persuaded to forsake their Holy Prophet, Muhammad, and their Holy Qur'n. Each Christian group urges Muslims to come into their respective versions of Jesus.... Within the context of these Scriptures, a study has been pursued of the writings of the Prophet Muhammad, as recorded in the Holy Qur'n. Attention is specifically made to the time of these inspired writings; the revelations came to this Prophet in the early part of the seventh century. Christianity was totally distorted as a result of the great "falling away." The reformation era had not commenced, by several centuries. The restoration was still over a millennia in the future. The Bible was still in several manuscript segments; and it was certainly not available to the masses. Muhammad brought his revealed messages to the Arabs of his time, and he did it in his own language. |
